Are Remanufactured Parts Just as Good as OEM Parts?

When you’re shopping for Dodge parts, you’re likely to come across a few different types. These include OEM parts, remanufactured parts, and aftermarket parts.

Whether you’re in for Dodge maintenance or just making a simple upgrade, it’s important to understand the difference between these types of parts. Here at Helfman Dodge Chrysler Jeep® RAM, our mechanics are happy to explain.

What are OEM Parts?

Before explaining what remanufactured parts are, it’s first important to understand OEM parts. OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer, and these parts are made by the vehicle’s factory supplier and are completely new parts. Because they are exactly the same as the original parts that came with your Dodge car, they are guaranteed to be long-lasting, durable, and they even come with a reassuring warranty.

What are Remanufactured Parts?

A remanufactured OEM part is a part that has been disassembled and restored to factory standards before it gets used as a replacement part. They go through as extensive testing process to ensure that they receive an official “rebuilt” label from the FTC. Keep in mind that remanufactured parts are different from refurbished or reconditioned parts, which are only repaired to make them work but not necessarily to manufacturer standards.

What are Aftermarket Parts?

Aftermarket parts are of lower quality than both OEM parts and remanufactured parts. They are created by third party manufacturers with the intention of fitting into multiple different makes and models. What this means, however, is that aftermarket parts may not fit properly in your vehicle and may not last as long.
