3 Reasons Why Your Check Engine Light Is On

We don’t just sell cars here at Helfman Dodge Chrysler Jeep® RAM FIAT. We can also help you take care of your car and answer all of your service questions like “Why is my Jeep check engine light on?” Here are a few reasons why your dashboard might be lighting up.

A Sensor Problem

There are various sensors that help your car run efficiently. When there is a problem with one of them, the check engine light might turn on to let you know. Unfortunately, it’s hard to tell exactly which sensor has the problem until you take a trip to our Jeep service center.

Some sensors that could be triggering your dashboard lights include the mass airflow sensor and the oxygen sensor. The mass airflow sensor helps maintain the proper air-fuel ratio. The oxygen sensor can cause a variety of issues when it goes bad, including engine misfires and problems with accelerating.

Bad Spark Plugs

Your spark plugs provide the “spark” that your engine needs to start up. When they start to go bad, they can misfire, which can make it difficult to start up your vehicle. If you need new spark plugs, our Jeep parts and accessories department has just what you’re looking for.

Loose Gas Cap

We have to mention this one, since it’s the easiest problem to fix. Sometimes the check engine light turns on just because your gas cap is loose. Check that first and see if tightening the cap makes the issue go away – it could save you a trip and some headache.
