Performance

Two engines are available within the truck’s venerable lineup. The base powerplant is a 6.4-liter V8 HEMI® engine, and it delivers 410 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque. A turbodiesel 6.7-liter six-cylinder Cummins® engine is optional, and it cranks out 850 lb-ft of torque and 370 horsepower.

The HEMI® engine relies on an eight-speed automatic transmission for gear shifts while the Cummins® powerplant pairs with a six-speed automatic transmission. You can get a RAM 2500 with either rear- or four-wheel drive depending on the trim.

Considering the pickup’s size and weight, the RAM 2500 remains sure-footed no matter which drivetrain it has. The truck’s steering is nicely weighted and provides ample feedback from the road, which makes it seem as if you’re operating a smaller vehicle. A standard coil-spring suspension or an optional air suspension ensures you’ll enjoy a smooth ride, even when the road is anything but.
